2009 Chinese First Expedition to Traverse World’s Largest Desert

At 3:00 on March 1st, 2009, a special press conference was held at the Auditorium of Yunnan Committee of CPPCC. Jin Feibao, now a member of Yunnan Committee of CPPCC, a famous adventurer, signed photographer of New China Agency and Fei Xuan, also a member of Yunnan Committee of CPPCC and deputy director of the Economic Council of the said Yunnan Committee of CPPCC, deputy chairman of board of directors of Yunnan Association of Geosciences, and economic management expert of Geological Prospecting and Mining officially announced at the conference that they will depart from middle March to take the captioned expedition. The expedition will last for around three months and from the west to the east, they will go through Senegal, Mali, Niger, Algeria, Libya and Egypt, with a total mileage of around 6700 kilometers. En route Feibao and Fei Xuan will have to go through several dangerous border areas where there is political chaos and anti-government forces haunt.
In 2008, Feibao and Fei Xuan created China’s first crossing of Greenland with the support of Yunnan Baiyao, setting the first Chinese footprints on the icecaps of Greenland. And they became the heroes of China and pride of Yunnan. A year later, Fei Bao and Fei Xuan will become teammates again during this 3-month Chinese first trans-sahara expedition.
The expedition are sponsored by Hongta Group and the People’s Government of Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province with the association of Yunnan Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy. Feibao and Fei Xuan will complete the expedition in multiple ways, camel rides, trekking and canoeing, and so on. This is the expedition in China’s desert adventure history covering the longest mileage, crossing the largest number of countries and the first time the desert is traversed from the west to the east by Chinese.
Leaders from Yunnan CPPCC, Yunnan Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy, Mr. Wang Minzheng, Mayor of Zhaotong City, Mr. Li Ping, deputy director of Sales Center of Hongta Group attended the conference and most of them spoke at the conference and all of them gave Feibao and Fei Xuan good luck wishes.
At the Conference, Mayor Wang Minzheng officially awarded Feibao and Fei Xuan the honors of “Honorary Citizen” of Zhaotong City, and Feibao and Fei Xuan announced that they will complete this expedition in the names of citizens of Zhaotong City.
As members of Yunnan CPPCC, Feibao and Fei Xuan could
just live their comfortable city lives, However, they do not want to live
just like that. Instead, they again and again went into those life-forbidden
zones, on the one hand, for data collection and field investigation for
environmental protection, on the other hand, to show their courage and
spirit of explorers. Their spirit of never giving up and persistent struggling
in the limits conditions is to encourage every single Chinese who hears
about them, the heroes of Yunnan!
